How Do Tree Removal Rules Apply in Narre Warren?
Some tree removal work in Narre Warren, Narre Warren South and Narre Warren North may require a planning permit. Depending on the property zone, planning overlays, native vegetation controls, heritage controls and the circumstances of the tree.
Permit required for Canopy Tree of:
- Height (5 m or more)
- Trunk circumference (0.5 m or more, measured 1.4 m above ground)
- Canopy diameter (4 m or more)
An exemption applies to canopy trees on sites developed with an existing dwelling. Other planning controls can still require a permit.
The City of Casey may require a permit :
- Where the property or tree is subject to a relevant overlay or other planning control, depending on the particular schedule and applicable exemptions.
- Removal of native vegetation under Clause 52.17. One exemption applies to native vegetation on land, together with contiguous land in the same ownership, of less than 4,000 m², subject to the other exemptions and requirements in the planning scheme.
- Construction, excavation or development work affects protected trees or their root zones.
You can carry out certain works without a permit, including:
- Minor maintenance pruning
- Removal of dead branches threatening buildings or utility services
- Pruning required for power line clearance
- Removal of declared environmental weeds
(Note: If a tree poses an immediate threat to life or property within 48 hours, emergency exemptions allow you to remove the hazardous section only.)
We handle your council compliance in four straightforward steps:
- Inspect your trees and property on-site
- Identify all active Casey planning overlays
- Prepare required tree condition reports
- Submit and manage your council application end-to-end

Local Tree Issues, Services & What Sets Us Apart
Properties across Narre Warren and surrounding suburbs have mature trees and established hedges (pin oaks, radiata pines, sugar gums), which create common issues such as canopy encroachment, driveway impacts and access problems.
On newer estates, near Fountain Gate and the Berwick Webbing estate, the more common issue is overgrown Photinia and Lilly Pilly hedges crowding smaller yards and fence lines.
We resolve these local tree hazards using targeted, compliant services:
- Hedging & trimming: Keeps boundary hedges and canopy spread in check without disturbing root zones.
- Pruning: Carried out to AS 4373-2007; trees on the Significant Tree Register or within an overlay are checked before any cut is made.
- Tree removal: Check council permit requirements and prepare a written tree condition report.
- Stump grinding: Ground below surface level so the area is safe and ready for turf, paving or a new garden bed.
- Emergency response: 24/7 callouts for storm-damaged Pin Oaks and Pines, with same-day hazard checks.
Every job is backed by $20M public liability insurance, so any property damage during the works is fully covered. Permit management is handled end-to-end: we confirm the overlay status, prepare the report where one’s needed, and lodge the application with City of Casey on your behalf. Once work is approved and finished, the site is left clear, with green waste processed or removed as agreed.
